COVID Victoria Update

From Thursday 6th of August, employers that require their staff to attend a worksite must issue a work permit to their employees – this is the employer’s responsibility. Penalties of up to $19,826 (for individuals) and $99,132 (for businesses) will apply to employers who issue work permits to employees who do not meet the requirements of the work permit scheme or who otherwise breach the scheme requirements.
There will also be on-the-spot fines for anyone who breaches the scheme requirements. This includes employers and employees who do not carry their worker permit when travelling to and from work.

Employers can issue a worker permit to their employee if:

• the employees need to travel around Melbourne
• the organisation is on the list of permitted activities
• the employee is working in an approved category for on-site work, and
• the employee cannot work from home.

An employee must not use a worker permit, even if they have been issued one, if:

• they test positive to coronavirus (COVID-19) and are required to self-isolate
• they are a close contact of someone who has tested positive.

Is our trading hours different? No, our branch network will continue to operate to support your business whenever and wherever you need us. We will be enforcing stricter servicing protocols to protect you and our staff but this will not impact the supply of your everyday electrical and related product needs. At this stage, there is no change to our normal trading hours, but we will advise locally should any changes become necessary.

We would also recommend to use our eBranch online ordering platform for deliveries or click and collect, you also attract 50% more Sparky Plus points by ordering online alternatively, you can call or email the branch to have your order ready for you and reduce time in the branch.

We have been preparing our stocks to ensure we are well covered in the event of any issue. We also have excellent communication and supply with our key vendors which ensures that the everyday products we stock will not be affected. We encourage you to contact your branch via phone, email or place orders online through eBranch whenever possible so that we can prepare your order and have it ready for a quick pick up or have it delivered to your worksite or home.

It’s important everyone remain vigilant and continue to follow the Government’s advice as it’s communicated. Thanks for your continued support and please call your local branch with any questions.
